Important note on petitions
  • There are many types of petitions that circulate within the community. Most are not meant to launch an RAD/ERAD process.

    • These are often in the form of letters or statements addressed to the Auroville Foundation, government officials and other people in power.

    • The topics covered are varied. They may or may not pertain to Auroville.

    • They can be launched by anybody and can be signed by anybody.

  • This checklist focusses on petitions that are intended to launch an official decision making process of the Residents' of Auroville.

    • The petition will clearly state that the intention is to launch an RAD/ERAD process.

    • They must be launched by Aurovilians or a group of Aurovilians.

    • The signatories of these petitions must be Aurovilians in the Masterlist.

RAD Petition Checklist

1) Formulate the Petition Statement

  • The topic/statement of the decision must be carefully worded. The statement can be modified during RAMs and through the feedback process.

  • Avoid using options like 'yes', 'no' in the petition, as these are reserved for the actual decision-making process.

  • It is strongly suggested that petitioners meet with the RAS to design the structure of a decision-making campaign prior to launching any petition.

Emergency RAD Process (ERAD)

  • As there will be no RAMs or official feedback process in an ERAD, extra care must be taken when formulating the topic/statement. It cannot be modified after signatures are collected.

  • This statement will be brought to the community for decision.
